Tsunami Warning for Japan and Russia
Very advanced alert system : you can find the same information in various form on every TV channel. Here you can see the heights of the wave and expected time of impact. Looks safe in Tokyo...
From BBC news : A tsunami is expected to hit Russia and northern Japan, the US Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says. Japan's meteorological agency says a tsunami of at least two metres (6.5 feet) high could hit Hokkaido and Honshu islands after 1210 GMT. Warnings are being broadcast on all Japanese TV and radio stations advising people to move to higher ground. It comes after an earthquake of at least 8.1 magnitude hit the Kuril Islands, north of Japan.USGS Information :
The following is a release by the United States Geological Survey, National Earthquake Information Center: A major earthquake occurred 445 km (275 miles) ENE of Kuril'sk, Kuril Islands and 1665 km (1030 miles) NE of TOKYO, Japan at 5:14 AM MDT, Nov 15, 2006 (10:14 PM local time in Russia). The magnitude and location may be revised when additional data and further analysis results are available. No reports of damage or casualties have been received at this time; however, this earthquake may have caused damage due to its location and size. Earthquakes of this type sometimes cause tsunamis, however the USGS has no information that an actual tsunami has been generated. Zune Incompatible with Windows Vista
Screenshot from Zune incompatible with Windows Vista [Apple Insider].
Funny extracts from the article:
"And for those wondering, the splash screen of three oriental chicks in distress isn't our contributor's stab at a knee-slapper. It's the official installer backdrop chosen by the Redmond, Wash. folks to appear for each and every customer who installs a Zune."
"I want to squirt you a picture of my kids. You want to squirt me back a video of your vacation. That's [an] experience," [Steve Ballmer] said.
Squirt?
Read Let Steve Ballmer squirt you.
And, here is the official proof that Zune has no Windows Vista support at the moment: http://www.zune.net/en-US/meetzune/software/OS_not_supported.htm

A pool filled with non-newtonian fluid
They filled a pool with a mix of cornstarch and water made on a concrete mixer truck. It becomes a non-newtonian fluid. When stress is applied to the liquid it exhibits properties of a solid.

Reviewme Madness 2
Today that's the second time I am writing on reviewme (reviewme.com).
Now, they raised their review budget from $25.000 to $100.000.
However, more than being a reasonable review site, reviewme reminds me of happy chains, multi level marketing, and a little of brain cults to some extent.

Reviewme Madness
There is this new web site review me, where people will get paid for reviewing other websites and products.
I came across of a live example/eye witness here.
Now, that can be a part of the web 3.0 because web 3.0 is going to be more about social improvement than it will be in java, video etc. Therefore web sites like YouTube and myspace fit better than google video and flickr into the scene.
Reviewme may establish a different pool of people that can stress start-ups or by imposing the anxiety on big ones it can also create room for small fishes.
We will see.

Remember Flying
A cool animation from a master thesis. The main idea is to remember that you can fly, as far as I understand.
Nice way to relieve stress.

Ferruginous Hawk Portrait
I think he is serious. Here is the poster's note:
This hawk is part of a raptor free-flight show that is put on twice daily at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum during the winter months. The birds in the flight show include this species, harris's hawks, and barn owls.
This shot was taken March '06 at the conclusion of a show; the raptor shows resume again in early November and run through mid April and provide a super opportunity to capture flight shots of these species.
I was looking for a video of a hawk on youtube and myspace but I ended up finding this photo. Maybe I should wait for Web 3.0 :)

Body Paint
I am sorry, I had to edit this post because the original image from Flickr has been deleted. But anyway, I have replaced it with another great body paint image and I hope you like that too.

Wordpress Sidebar Widgets
I don't exactly remember how many posts I have written today. Most probably I am in my manic episode of a bipolar state.
Anyway, time to time I am thinking of switching to wordpress.com.
I have an account on WordPress.com but I am not using it. I had a look at its environment, of course. There is this sidebar widget thing that makes it really very easy to shape your site up.
People at Blogger provided this functionality in the beta too though.
But it's worth having a look at the sidebar widgets.

Segolene Royal Video
Segolene Royal is a member of the socialist party in France since 1980. By the last elections, she was nearly equal in votes against Nicolas Sarkozy.
She claimes that she will create Paris d'Avenir (Paris of the future), and runs for presidancy in 2007 elections.

Zune in a swimming pool
Not hard to tell, there have always been such images around the net when microsoft releases a software, a product, etc.
Probably that will continue with the web 3.0 buzz.

Second Life
I have done a search for second life on myspace. Here are the search results.
It was really interesting to see that many young people are diving into that second life like crazy.
There are people that publish videos either on myspace or on YouTube. Usually a video of their second life.
Second Life is a game people play over the net, via a desktop application that you can download for free from the second life web site.
I could not run the software of second life because of the low capacity of my windows box. I still use windows on an old computer, just to see how my work looks like on internet explorer 6 or 7. Especially pages I design for web 2.0 via ajax may had problems because java and javascript differ from browser to browser.
Well, anyway, the main machine I work on is a Ubuntu Linux Box, and it is a Centrino with a GeForce card on it with lots of memory. More than enough for a notebook, I might say.
Second Life is going to release a software for Linux Systems too. So I am going to play it on my Linux box. The software is still on the alpha stage, it has some video acceleration problems however it is on the go anyway.

Can't register my blog on YouTube!
Well, most probably the reason for this is the beta conversion of blogger. Although there is also "Blogger Beta" option on YouTube's page, I still can't register my blog for posting videos from within YouTube.
I have decided to put video on my blog as well as photos from around flickr. The experiment that I do with images and colors are going really well, I will tell this in detail in the near future too.
Since I am using Ubuntu Linux with Firefox or Flock for browsing, I thought that this might be an error emerginf because of java or javascript. But then I immediately remembered that Browsers on Ubuntu Linux have a little better java or javascript support on web pages.

365 Days
The Challenge: Post 365 different self-portraits. One per day for an entire year.
It all started when I (ChrisMaverick) happened upon flickr user, Stephen_Poff. And his 365 day diary project. Basically, every day he makes a new self portrait. trying to find someway to express himself creatively, with a single subject. Himself.
I was inspired to try the challenge myself. A couple other people said they were interested and it was decided that there should perhaps be a photo pool and community where this could be discussed and shared. I'd love to see tons of people trying this. People I know. People I don't know. This could prove to be very intriguing.
The Quick Rules
1. Take one new self portrait every day for a whole year.
2. Tag your photo with "365days"
3. Post that photo to the pool.
4. Look at some other people's photos in the pool and comment.
5. Have fun
This is worth to have a look at. Looks like fun. I am not sure if I can be able to resist this challenge though.

Why did you lie when you said you loved me?
I think this is a wonderful imagination and reflection of intimate feelings and what we are doing each other in relationships.
Miscommunication in relationships, symbolized in form of art.
